Felines total time of being pregnant to birthing of baby kitties is about 60-64 days total. In the beginning, most don't even realize that their feline has become impregnated. This is normal, just as in the rest of the animal kingdom, pregnancy is something that shows up in time. Approximately mid-way through the term it becomes most apparent that a cat is going to have kittens. After about a month of being pregnant, the felines stomach grows and quite often this looks like the cat is gaining weight, possibly from eating too much food or too many treats. Upon noticing the cat's belly becoming bigger, it won't be long and it's nipples will also enlarge and become more obvious too, which will give certain clarity that it is pregnant. Abundant questions arise relating to what follows from this point with pregnant felines and precisely what owners need to do in order to prepare for birth and health of the mother cat. About two weeks before birthing, sometimes the unborn kittens move around in such a way that one can see their outline and gently stroking the mother's belly it often is possible to feel them too. Preparing a location for birth should be taken care of now. Cats prefer a secluded location without light. A closet may be a good option due to lack of light and the ability to leave the door ajar so the mother can get in and out as she may so desire. Even though an ideal area has been readied, it still isn't a sure bet that the pregnant feline will actually go along with it. Felines will make that decision independently. Allow the mother cat to nest where she chooses, just try to see that it's safe for her and the newborns. Mother cats that are expecting will start seeking out an ideal spot for birthing her kittens within days or even a week or two prior to actually giving birth. It should be noted that although a place may be readied by the cat caretaker or the cat herself, this doesn't mean the place will be used, expect the unexpected because she may suddenly give birth anywhere else, whether it's the living room, garage, bathroom or under a bed but just let her be. In the event the kittens get birthed somewhere other than expected, mother cats will usually relocate the newborn kittens herself, just allow her to do so without interfering . Approximately 24 hours or less prior to birth, one may observe excessive licking going on as the mother will begin to lick herself incessantly near to the genitalia. Thirty minutes or more before the actual birth, the water will break which looks like some kind of thick fluid being sprayed from the mother cat. One other frequent question people often ask is about how many kittens normally can be expected. Most often, there are between one and four kittens born, however, there can be more. Visiting the vet may provide the answer to this question. Kittens are always born with blue eyes and most of the time they change to green within a couple of weeks. All baby felines are born blind and deaf but within a couple of weeks they generally gain their sight and hearing abilities It's OK to touch the newborn kittens as long as the mother allows it and doesn't get upset. If she doesn't like anyone touching them then they should be left only to the mother's attention. At around eight to ten weeks old, the kittens will be ready to be placed into a new home and won't need their mother after that. Expect that it will be at least two to three weeks for a newborn kitten to start acting like kittens as it takes a little time to grow and get strong before scampering playfully. So now you know what to expect when your cat is expecting. Always keep in mind to obtain necessary vaccinations to keep cats healthy. Often kitties have ear mites. Be sure to look at the ears and provide medication to eliminate the problem Be natural with Dr Dogs Ear Oil, safely and effectively relieves symptoms for all felines.
